our big surprise…the “waiting in the word” free study!

Advent begins next month. Did you miss that? Me, too.

It’s hard enough to prepare when we’ve got till December. But now November is edging on the horizon – and Advent will be here before we know it. Are you ready? Even with Halloween hiding around the corner and Thanksgiving plans to make and Christmas decorations cramming Target aisles since September?

Already I feel a zillion distractions pressing on me, pulling me away from the heart of my favorite liturgical season.

But this year is going to be different.

Nell from Whole Parenting Family, Nancy from Do Small Things with Love, and I have been secretly hard at work on a big Advent project that we can’t wait to share with you –

A Scripture study for busy moms who want to find time to sit with God’s Word in Advent.

We created this study for moms like us: moms with small kids underfoot, moms juggling work and home, moms who struggle to find time to pray.

We wanted something simple, beautiful, and inspiring to journey with us through Advent. And we wanted to make space in our lives to reflect on Scripture during the busiest season of the year.

So we wrote Waiting in The Word. A week-by-week guide to Advent, complete with personal stories, reflection questions, a companion journal, and most importantly, an easy way to pray with Scripture each day.

To learn more about Waiting in The Word, sign up for our newsletter here. We’ll keep you posted as soon as it’s ready to be released. As an added bonus, you’ll receive a free week-long study on distraction when you subscribe!

Waiting in The Word - Distraction Study

Waiting in The Word: A Mother’s Journey from Distraction to Light will introduce you to lectio divina, the simple prayer practice with Scripture at the heart of our study. Learning lectio divina was life-changing for me, and I hope it will be for you, too.

Starting with our free study means you’ll be ready to jump right in with lectio divina once Advent starts. Plus you’ll get to read Nancy’s honest reflections on her struggles with distraction in the midst of raising kids (which I COMPLETELY relate to).

And you’ll get linked up to our new Facebook community for Waiting in The Word – a place to support each other as we try to make more space in our busy lives for prayer and connection to God.

So if you’re searching for a way to make the Advent season less stressful (or you know a busy mom who needs to take more time for herself), check out Waiting in The Word.

We can’t wait to see what this Advent brings…

  1. I’ve really enjoyed this study! Thank you so much for helping me read scripture. I have wanted to read my bible so badly for so long, but embarrassingly don’t know how or where to start. This study has been such an encouragement to me, and has helped me focus on how to uproot those distractions that steal time away from my God, husband and children. Thank you again! So looking forward to your Advent reflections!

    1. Thank you so much, Kristin! I’m delighted you’ll be joining us. No embarrassment at all – I think so many of us are in the same boat. I hope this will be a wonderful Advent for you!

  2. I just learned about this and as a pastor I plan to suggest it to families next advent. I am a little turned off by the limiting of this to mothers. Certainly there are dads out there who would enjoy this. I know I have some in my congregation.
